Founded in 2005 to bring together scholars and students from the sciences, humanities and arts to explore the reciprocal relationships between natural and cultural systems, The Commons is a central space on campus both physically and conceptually. In collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across the University, it develops ongoing programs and hosts funding opportunities for faculty and students to work across disciplines and through language barriers to explore topics that benefit from diverse perspectives across specializations, practices, and experiences.
The Commons at the University of Kansas is a catalyst for unconventional thinking, interdisciplinary inquiry, and unexpected discoveries across the sciences, arts, and humanities. It is a space, both physically and conceptually for dialogue across specializations and perspectives about issues of importance.
