Across the Tisch School of the Arts, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Grey Art Museum, and Institute of Fine Arts, students have access to professional-caliber studios, theaters, galleries, recording facilities, makerspaces, and research collections. Rather than concentrating the arts in one campus complex, NYU’s creative resources are woven throughout Greenwich Village, Downtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and NYU’s global network, giving students a direct connection to the city’s professional arts community.
The Tisch School of the Arts is a major hub for creative production, encompassing programs in film and television, drama, dance, photography and imaging, game design, interactive media arts, recorded music, and other emerging forms. Tisch’s facilities support both traditional artistic disciplines and emerging technologies, giving students opportunities to experiment with animation, immersive media, game development, virtual production, digital fabrication, and interactive storytelling. Performance is a particularly visible part of the Tisch experience, with theaters and rehearsal spaces distributed throughout NYU’s Washington Square and Downtown Manhattan facilities.
Music and performing arts are also deeply embedded within Steinhardt, whose Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions encompasses music performance, music technology, music business, songwriting, musical theatre, dance, and related fields. NYU’s visual arts ecosystem is equally substantial. The Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions occupies the six-story Barney Building in the East Village, which houses studios, workshops, laboratories, classrooms, exhibition spaces, and faculty offices. Facilities support disciplines including sculpture, printmaking, painting, drawing, ceramics, metalsmithing, sewing, photography, and digital art.
At the center of NYU’s visual-art and art-historical landscape is the Grey Art Museum, the university’s fine arts museum and steward of the NYU Art Collection. The collection now encompasses nearly 7,000 objects, spanning the late nineteenth century to the present and including significant holdings in American modernism, European prints, and modern Asian and Middle Eastern art. At NYU, Greta Bosello works on University-Wide Initiatives and cross-school collaborations that intersect arts, education, and professional development. She serves on the administrative team for NYU Faculty Write, an Office of the Provost initiative geared toward faculty advancement and academic community-building.
She has co-organized PhD Live!, a program that collaborates with performing arts faculty to coach doctoral candidates across various disciplines, helping them translate complex research into engaging public stories. Furthermore, Bosello has co-produced cross-school events, such as the Woody Guthrie: What This Guitar Might Do exhibition at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute, bridging folk music, student design, and activism. She is also recognized as an NYU Wasserman Career Champion, helping guide and support student career development.
Alex Clothier is the Assistant Director of University-wide Initiatives within the Office of the Provost at New York University (NYU). In this administrative leadership capacity, Clothier coordinates and oversees interdisciplinary, university-wide programs that bridge multiple schools and departments within the institution.
He serves as the primary contact and administrator for the Goddard Impact Awards, a grant program that supports NYU faculty working across traditional school boundaries on innovative research, creative arts, and educational initiatives aimed at social impact. He helps manage institutional resources designed to elevate academic scholarship, such as the NYU Faculty Write initiative, which provides community, structure, and writing development programs for NYU’s cross-disciplinary educators and researchers.
