Introducing Lauren Fretz: Education Specialist

Please welcome Lauren Fretz, a2ru’s new Education Specialist. Fretz hit the ground running when she was hired in July and is planning two a2ru events for 2014. The first is the Emerging Creatives Student Conference which takes place on Thursday, January 30, 2014 and runs through Sunday, February 1st. The second event is a2ru’s 2014 National Conference which will be hosted by Iowa State University on Wednesday November 5, 2014 thru Saturday, November 8, 2014. Information about the a2ru 2014 National Conference will be forthcoming.

We are very excited to have Lauren on board. She is an art historian and educator who has worked in arts institutions across the country, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and The Laboratory of Art and Ideas at Belmar in Denver. In 2011 she was named Museum Educator of the Year by the Texas Art Education Association. Lauren has a particular interest in the intersection of science and the arts, and has developed and taught programs in this context for students ranging from middle school to medical school. Her master’s thesis explored the poetic films and writings of French biologist Jean Painlevé, and she will insist on showing you his film The Love Life of the Octopus if she gets a chance.
