Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano – School of Music –  University of Maryland (UMD) | College Park, Maryland

The University of Maryland (UMD) School of Music invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano (salary commensurate with experience; beginning August 2025). The successful candidate will lead a renowned and well-established collaborative piano program in the areas of instrumental and vocal music; oversee all collaborative piano curriculum and activities; and teach lessons, mentor, and advise a studio of MM and DMA collaborative piano students, including studio classes, coaching chamber ensembles, and teaching courses in repertoire and pedagogy.

Candidates must have an understanding of the administrative role of this position which includes overseeing all graduate assistants who serve as collaborative pianists in support of the instrumental and voice/opera divisions; coordinating collaborative piano staff and adjunct faculty teaching assignments; and coordinating additional collaborative piano needs to support the School.

The successful candidate will be a full member of the piano division, collaborate in performance with School of Music faculty and visiting artists, and must be willing and available to meet these responsibilities on-campus on a regular and ongoing basis.

The successful candidate will maintain an active and visible professional profile; build professional relationships with local, regional, and national artistic institutions; actively recruit students for the School’s collaborative piano program; cultivate an inclusive, welcoming, and healthy learning environment for students, faculty, and staff; and actively participate in service activities in support of the School of Music, the College of Arts and Humanities and the University.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An advanced degree in music and/or commensurate professional experience is required. Demonstrated experience coaching and teaching collaborative piano is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity in teaching, performance, and service is expected.
