Program Specialist, Arts at Michigan, University of Michigan

Reporting to the Program Director for the Arts at Michigan program, the Program Specialist assists with the delivery of Arts at Michigan programs. The Program Specialist serves as a primary contact and resource for students and student organizations, connecting them to the arts and art opportunities.
Arts at Michigan’s mission is to integrate the visual, performing, and literary arts into the undergraduate experience at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus. Arts at Michigan programs actively engage students in the arts as a meaningful way to build connections between academic and co-curricular experiences, and to support students in their diverse roles as creators, audience members, and leaders in the university’s vibrant arts community.
Arts at Michigan exists to integrate arts and culture into the undergraduate experience at the University of Michigan by:

• Promoting arts as a tool for student learning and development
• Supporting students’ creativity and arts initiatives
• Cultivating a campus community that values the arts
Responsibilities
Assist in the design and delivery of Arts at Michigan programs (75%):

The Program Specialist assists with the planning, facilitation and implementation of Arts at Michigan student-focused programs and services. This includes working with other University departments and initiatives to develop and collaborate on student engagement programs. Programs this role has focused on include, but are not limited to Artscapade, Passport to the Arts, As I See It, Art Outta Town, and Student Mini-Grants.

The Program Specialist will be the advisor to the Arts Ambassadors, Arts at Michigan’s sponsored student organization. The Arts Ambassadors serve as a bridge between the arts and the U-M student body. The Program Specialist will offer guidance and support, and will work to ensure the organization meets the requirements of the sponsorship agreement.

The Program Specialist will play an active role in the marketing of Arts at Michigan programs and initiatives at campus events and across various media platforms. They will be responsible for regular communication to various constituent groups, including faculty, staff, students, and community members. They will also work with the central U-M communications team to bring awareness to arts opportunities for students and identify stories to tell to demonstrate the impact of the arts on the student experience.

The Program Specialist will support Arts at Michigan’s “Share Your Genius” initiative, providing platforms for student creative work. This may happen through arts exhibitions and competitions, through online features, or through other methods of showcasing student work.

The Program Specialist will be responsible for surveying and assessment efforts as they relate to the programmatic offerings supported through Arts at Michigan. They will have functional supervision over student employees, and will participate in their selection.
Develop strategic partnerships on campus, locally and nationally (25%):

The Program Specialist will serve on University-wide committees for the purpose of furthering the mission of Arts at Michigan and to give service to the community. They will assist the Program Director in the cultivation and support of student organizations and advocacy around student efficacy through the arts.

The Program Specialist will also be expected to have a working knowledge of the arts across campus, and will represent Arts at Michigan at student and University organizational events, committees and functions as needed.
Required Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
– Strong demonstrated background or interest in the arts or arts related activities
– Previous experience in program planning and delivery
– Ability to work independently and manage competing work priorities
– A collaborative team-focused orientation
– Ability to tend to organizational details
– Computer literacy with proficiency in or knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, social media and web interfaces.
– Excellent oral and written communication skills.
– Ability to work flexible hours (including occasional nights and weekends).
Desired Qualifications
– A master’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience.)
– Experience and enthusiasm working with students, and an understanding of the principles of student development.
– Experience with graphics software programs or web-based software packages.
– Reasonable knowledge of the University of Michigan’s organization, policies, rules and regulations, or those of other universities.
