Communications Specialist hired.  With the advice and consultation of the Strategic Communications committee, we have hired a communications specialist for a2ru.  Michelle Krell Kydd is a native New Yorker who has been working in sales and marketing since 1985 for companies including Microsoft, Clarins Fragrance Group, Ciao Bella Gelato, and New York Magazine.  A widely-respected flavor and fragrance expert, Michelle has been producing her award-winning blog, Glass Petal Smoke, since 2007.

Michelle Krell Kydd is a communications specialist with a flair for engaging individuals across media platforms. An eclectic user of information and an engaging storyteller, Michelle is skilled in narrative management that facilitates brand awareness, conversation and learning. Her ability to organize, synthesize and present information is reflected in a style that is cohesive, holistic and thought provoking across disciplines.

Michelle was immersed in transdisciplinary approaches to learning when she attended the Bronx High School of Science, a magnet school in New York. It was there that she discovered her interests in science and the arts were congruent, each discipline providing an opportunity to examine and solve problems in unique and interesting ways. This discovery has infused her professional and personal life ever since.

In her previous position as a communications specialist in the flavors and fragrance industry, Michelle worked for Aedes de Venustas, Atelier Cologne, Ciao Bella Gelato, Clarins Fragrance Group, The Estée Lauder Companies, and Lisa Hoffman Beauty. Keeping up with research in olfaction and gastronomy is central to communicating intangible elements that characterize the fantasy of beauty products and innovative flavor delivery. Michelle credits transdisciplinary thinking for her ability to fuse multiple approaches in the service of an innovative product.

Michelle graduated cum laude with a BA in English from the State University of New York at Albany. While working in the flavors and fragrance industry, she was trained as a “nose” by Givaudan. Michelle uses her olfactory talent to create expository writing curriculum for 826Michigan as part of their STEM initiative. She also conducts “Smell and Tell” workshops for adults and children at the Ann Arbor District Library. Michelle’s passion for olfaction is reflected in the articles on her award winning blog, Glass Petal Smoke.
