EUGENE H. FRAM CHAIR IN APPLIED CRITICAL THINKING
March 14, 2018
Our complex information age now comes with expectations, simply knowing is not enough. In response, RIT created the Applied Critical Thinking (ACT at RIT) initiative to foster the application of critical thinking- the exercising of effective thinking in any context. Application of critical thinking connects the performance chain of knowing-doing-creating. We build within our tigers the skills necessary to effectively comprehend and analyze a situation, and then develop and implement a strategy to solve a complex problem or manifest new ideas, both individually and collectively. These same skills transfer into every other area of life and are the impetus for growth, professionalism, creative expression, and the realization of our contribution to the world.
Our ACT at RIT is an environment and experience of learning designed to ‘future proof’ our RIT tiger by intentionally, systematically embedding and enabling the growth of critical thinking across the student experience and throughout life, empowering our alumni to be successful in whatever path they choose or create.
