Iowa State’s construction engineering program experiences success with hybrid learning classrooms.

Since 2012, Iowa State University’s construction engineering program has integrated multimedia into some of its courses to create hybrid learning environments. These hybrid learning courses consist of both online materials and in-class teaching.

The online materials supplement the classroom teaching, and allow for a greater flexibility in how to use the in-class time. Two Iowa State postdoctoral multimedia researchers, undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and alumni have contributed to course materials.

Based on the success of the construction engineering hybrid learning classrooms, Iowa State will offer three hybrid civil engineering courses starting in the fall 2014 semester. Details about these courses and their development can be found here.
