The Next Leap-Funding Resources & Tips

The Next Leap Powerpoint Presentation by David Holland

Building on the success of the 2014 a2ru Student Conference at Stanford, a2ru organized our second annual Emerging Creatives Student Summit, PULSE: Creative Collaborations for Cities in Flux  hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University on January 28-31, 2015.

The summit brought together over 100 undergraduate and graduate students from across the country who wanted to explore creative transdisciplinary collaboration as a means to help make the city of the future. By some estimates, in 2030, 81% of the world population will live in cities.  This future outlook begs a series of questions that are of paramount interest to a wide range of modern day thinkers as it will impact future generations.  Students across disciplines were encouraged to attend. Experts, special guests, and faculty mentors guided student teams in developing and presenting innovative project ideas that have the potential to alter urban life in the coming decades. Students may have chosen to address housing, infrastructure, sustainability, social issues, economies, politics, energy, accessibility, security, design, healthcare, education, culture, and other urban issues in local or global contexts. Students also learned best practices when it comes to working with municipal leaders to actualize ideas, projects, and programs, and will build a network of cross-country collaborators.

a2ru announced the 2015 Challenge Grant to help give transdisciplinary student teams seed monies to start or continue a collaborative project that addresses a social, community, or societal problem. Please download the instructions and applications in the link above.
