Digital Storytelling: Tools & Techniques

Students from the a2ru institutions are invited to participate in a two-week interdisciplinary summer intensive at the University of Florida Digital Worlds Institute, June 11 – 22, 2018.

Participants will have the opportunity to work in collaborative groups utilizing the facilities of Digital Worlds (DW) to create new digital media for showcase to both local and global audiences near the end of the residency period.  

Technologies and facilities available at DW include wireless motion capture stage, ultra-wide screen immersive theater with 7.1 surround sound, 2D and 3D animation, support for mobile and video game creation as well as interactive audio and video environments, and digitally-enhanced live performance.

Students with interests and backgrounds in, but not limited to, performing arts, computer and game programming, visual arts, storytelling and creative writing, animation and videography are invited to apply.

The two-week intensive costs $1,395 + the cost of travel. This cost provides: food, lodging, expert faculty instruction for the certificate, unlimited access to the Digital Worlds Institute’s leading-edge facilities and a weekend excursion.

Please provide your statement of purpose. Describe in 2-3 paragraphs why you are interested in this two-week interdisciplinary summer intensive. This statement should include information about your background or interests in arts, technology, and communications and your demonstrated talent to take risks and “think outside the box.”

Three representative work samples. The submitted work samples are a body of creative or technical work. This could be work complete as part of your previous education, or original work completed outside of the classroom, demonstrating passion, talent and skill in the areas of art, technology, or communication.

Images and videos can be labeled and ordered after they are uploaded. Include the title of the work, medium, size and date. You may also include the URL for your website.

There is a $5 submission fee that you pay online after you set up and review your work samples.

Maximum file sizes:
images: .jpg, .png or .gif – 2 MB each. For good image quality and fast upload, your image files should be sized no larger than 1280 x 1280 px @ 72 dpi
video – .mov, .wmv, .flv – up to 20 MB
PDF – 10 MB per document
