The University of Southern California’s entry into the 2013 Solar Decathlon is called fluxHome, which refers to its modules that can be rearranged, stacked and added on as family units change. The interdisciplinary project to build an affordable, innovative net-zero home is being built on campus, but it will be dismantled and rebuilt three times, ultimately being donated to a family near our University Park campus. Here, three team members and their faculty advisers give an overview of the half-completed home and explain why the 10 competitions in the decathlon require collaboration from several USC schools.
