USC Cinematic Arts grad joins forces with a USC microbiologist on hit TNT show about a deadly pandemic.

USC School of Cinematic Arts alum Steven Kane MA ’95 and his writing partner and co-executive producer Hank Steinberg, had done a pilot of a TV show, “The Last Ship,” about a deadly virus. When the pilot was picked up, they were looking for a virus expert and discovered Paula Cannon, associate professor of microbiology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, who leads a research team that studies gene therapy, stem cells and hemorrhagic viruses such as Lassa fever. She helped the two create a new, unnamed virus and assisted the screenwriters write episodes that were realistic.
