Introduce and familiarize students to the fundamental issues involving making and thinking in three dimensions.

ART 131 is a studio course at the University of Alabama designed to introduce and familiarize students to the fundamental issues involving making and thinking in three dimensions. Organized around a series of exercises aimed at developing and promoting critical thinking, students focus on learning the basics of 3D design through the design and construction of objects in both digital and hands-on, tangible formats. Because the course revolves around designing for the human and user experience, students must be able to work across the arts, sciences, and humanities to provide a broad perspective and critically discriminate between reliable and less reliable information in their decision-making processes.
